Garen - The real immortal Tank

Im posting the Garen's guide (as a tank) that's already in the EU list of guides.

Greetings all.

After several months playing Garen I decided to make this guide in order to teach all Summoners the best setup for playing him as the real immortal tank.

Here it goes



Masteries

0 / 22 / 8

Defense: 3 Hardiness / 2 Resistance / 4 Evasion / 1 Nimbleness / 3 Harden Skin / 4 Veteran Scars / 1 Willpower / 3 Ardor / 1 Tenacity
Utility: 3 Preserverance / 4 Awareness / 1 Haste

Summoner Spells

Theres no discussion on this point. Ghost and Cleanse
Ghost will make you catch up with enemies while using Judgement or run away if needed.
Cleanse will make you catch up with them also if stunned and run away if needed.

Runes

I use standard tank rune page

Armor Penetration Marks - +15
Dodge Seals - +6.8%
Cool-down reduction Glyphs - -5.85%
Flat Health Quintessences - +97

Skill order

Lvl
1 - Judgement
2 - Decisive Strike
3 - Judgement
4 - Courage
5 - Judgement
6 - Demacian Justice

After this, finish maxing Judgement and then maximize Courage.
Courage is really a must have maxed soon as you can so you can boost your tank skills. Leave Decisive Strike to max it later, you only need it at lvl 1 so you can silence enemy champions.

Items

Start with a Ruby Crystal, after that make a Spirit Visage.
Then you will need Boots of Swiftness.
Right away build a Force of Nature starting with the Negatron Cloak to maximize magic resistance right away.
Maximizing Magic Resistance in the beginning is really helpful because AD characters take time to build, all others and even AD ones (most of them) still make loads of magic damage at the early game.
After Force of Nature you need to look at your adversaries. If their team is based on stuns make a Banshe's Veil. If its full of DPS characters (like Miss Fortune, Tristana, Sivir, Master Yi, etc..) go right away to a Thornmail.
Finish your setup with a Sunfire Cap so you can take more damage, deal more damage using Judgement, and a final item of your choice I usually go for Infinity Edge to maximize damage output or Last Whisper if its full of armoured tanks .

Play-stile


Not much to tell, you'll be awesome at early game,
Good at mid game,
Immortal at end game.

At early game always hide in grass and ambush your enemies with Judgement. You'll get pretty feeded that way.

Remember to use Courage before engaging in battle
Always remember to use Decisive Strike to chase enemy champions and to silence ultimates.
WAIT for the right timing to apply Demacian Justice and save it to the high HP champions.
REMEBER that Judgement takes your slow effects but ONLY if used after the slow is set on you!

Short story.. Although Garen wasn't created to be a tank... You'll be one of the best (if not the best) tank ingame.

You really think you need Exhaust with cleanse and ghost ?

Sorry but im a Cleanse / Ghost lover with tank champions, and works awesomely with garen to be honest.

Anyway its a matter of preferences.
